Coordinator-Public Health Programs

• Coordinate departmental activities, School-Seminars, Field Trips, Budgets, Prepare Time tables etc • Teach Undergraduates in Community / Public/ Environmental/Occupational Health • Assign Units to Academic staff, Facilitate Curriculum Review, Moderate & Process Exams • Develop Marking Schemes for the Respective Courses. • Supervise, Mentor & Spear-head research activities/Projects in the department • Coordinate, Mentor/Supervise students on Internship/Attachment • Mentor and advice students on career development • Attend & contribute during University Faculty Academic Committee Board Meetings • Advise Students and Department on Appropriate Academic Subjects, Backgrounds and Trainings.

Project Officer

• Supervision of project staff in the field & Social mobilization/advocacy for the project • Improving access and ensuring supply of effective, high quality ACT drugs at community level • Overseeing & participating in the implementation of Community Strategy structures in Malindi District • Liaising with MoH to ensure adequate supply of ACT • Promoting prompt and effective treatment of Malaria with ACT among pregnant women & children under 5 years. • Monitoring use of insecticide treated nets (ITNs) by pregnant women and children under five years • Recruitment ,training and orientation of community based health workers (CHVs) • Collating & submission of monthly and quarterly data: analyze, summarize and disseminate Key Achievements:  Recruited and trained 107 CHVs from the community  Implemented Community Strategy structures for malaria control in the former Malindi District, in Kilifi County, Kenya.

DRIP (Dissertation Research Internship Programme) Scholar

• Collect baseline data on capacity and utilization of; (a) Malaria Diagnostic and Treatment tools in Health Facilities in Mwea, and (b) Malaria Vector Control Practices in the Community • Initiate and promote Integrated Vector Management (IVM) and encourage village residents to Mosquito proof their houses and set up appropriate system for procurement and mass distribution of long lasting Nets • Organize village level meetings aimed at enhancing community knowledge regarding impacts of malaria, self protection and treatment measures • Conduct quantitative and qualitative studies on local people’s knowledge, on causes, transmission, prevention and control of malaria both at household and community level. ☞ Successfully & jointly distributed more than 3,000 LLNs & implemented integrated vector control interventions in Four Villages.
