Dr. Saeb Aliwaini is a Palestinian health program manager, biomedical researcher, and university lecturer with more than 15 years of experience in academic teaching, cancer research, and humanitarian health coordination. Holding a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Cape Town, he has supervised dozens of postgraduate research projects and published widely in oncology and biomedical science. Since 2023, Dr. Aliwaini has served as the Manager of the Noor Health Program, an innovative initiative designed to provide holistic medical, nutritional, and psychosocial support for orphans affected by the war in Gaza. While contributing to the program’s early development, his main leadership has been in establishing and operationalizing its structure—designing service formats, setting up medical points, appointing and training staff, and introducing monitoring and evaluation systems. Under his management, Noor has grown into a coordinated, multi-disciplinary program that integrates international child protection standards with evidence-based health interventions. Through his efforts in program structuring, staff capacity-building, and partnership-building with ministries, UN agencies, and NGOs, Noor has become a sustainable model for community-based child health and psychosocial care in conflict settings. Beyond Noor, Dr. Aliwaini directed the Cancer Research Unit at the Turkish Palestinian Friendship Hospital, advancing molecular oncology studies and building local research capacity. He continues to lecture at the Islamic University of Gaza and other institutions, where he inspires and mentors the next generation of scientists and health professionals.
Master of Biology
Gaza
Islamic University of Gaza
2005
Dr. Saeb Aliwaini earned his Master’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Islamic University of Gaza, where his research centered on molecular genetics and cancer therapy. His thesis work explored genetic mechanisms related to cancer progression and the potential of novel therapeutic approaches, providing an early foundation for his later focus on oncology. Key aspects of his MSc experience included: Conducting laboratory-based research in molecular biology and cancer genetics, applying advanced techniques in gene analysis and cellular assays. Developing skills in experimental design, data collection, and scientific writing, which prepared him for international doctoral studies. Presenting research findings within academic forums, strengthening IUG’s contribution to cancer research in Palestine. This Master’s program not only deepened his expertise in molecular and cancer biology, but also shaped his academic and professional path, eventually leading him to pursue a PhD at the University of Cape Town and to establish the Cancer Research Unit in Gaza.
