Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (REEE) Project (commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in cooperation with the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) and State Bank of Pakistan) to consider the conditions for the wider uptake of permanent and effective solutions for renewable energy and energy efficiency to be improved (Budget: ~ €7.0m) Key responsibilities: • Served as Principal Program Manager with the overall responsibility for team, budget and activities management • Advised on the strategic conception and planning of two new projects • Supported grid integration of renewable energy and storage, off-grid energy supply and energy efficiency in the building sector and industry • Advocated innovative business models and offered policy advice • Participated in capacity building for grid operators, establishing an energy forum and market incentive programs • Principal Advisor for the NDC Partnership. Strengthening the financing and implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions with climate financing advice • Principal Advisor Climate Finance Readiness Programme (CF-Ready). Improving conditions for the effective, transformative and efficient access and use of funds from international climate finance. • Support to the State Bank of Pakistan to develop Green Banking Guidelines (GBG). These guidelines provide an environmental due diligence framework for all commercial banks in Pakistan for financing renewable energy projects. Training of commercial banks on RE project finance. Main achievements • Policy support to the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and improvement of financing conditions resulted in renewable energy projects amounting to nearly 2,000 megawatts (MW) capacity being newly installed and connected to the national grid • Establishment of the Pakistan-German Renewable Energy Forum has fostered interaction between the German and Pakistani public and private sectors thus seven Pakistani solar power companies have so far established business contacts with 40 German companies resulting in positive business transactions • Establishment of NDC Partnership improving implementation and finance of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for national actors and private sector • A new legal framework has been introduced for net metering which allows public and private consumers to sell surplus power, generated by solar systems, of up to 1 MW to distribution companies • Contributed to saving costs and making economies: about an equivalent of 150 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity per annum, saving about 600 million Pakistani Rupees (€3.6m) on an annual basis

Strategic Advisor for the direction and overall management of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU) program "Commercialization of solar energy in urban and industrial areas" (Comsolar), GIZ India (Overall budget: ~ €14m), in charge of: Ø Strategy development for marketing solar energy and supporting the implementation of the National Solar Mission of the Government of India Ø Development and demonstration of innovative business models for solar energy on-grid and off-grid applications Ø Preparation, management and monitoring of the piloting of demonstration projects including the development of business plans for up-scaling (Examples: solar systems in rural areas (Ladakh), Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, Bangalore (400kW), Solar PV plant Delhi Metro & Rail Cooperation (500 kW) and decentral CSP plant (1MWel) in rural Rajasthan).
