DanChurchAid (DCA) is seeking to recruit a competent, experienced and motivated Kenyan National for the position of Climate Advocacy Officer. The position is based in Nairobi – with possible shorter international travels.
While the Climate Advocacy Officer will work from the Kenya office under the day-to-day oversight of the DCA Kenya Country Director and with logistical support from the country office, the role is embedded within a headquarters-led team and will report functionally to DCA’s Global Climate Lead, based in Copenhagen.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Climate Advocacy Officer will be responsible for implementation of global advocacy activities, identified and prepared in collaboration with the DCA climate advocacy team, and the Global Climate Lead.
Key responsibilities:
Research, monitoring and strategic analysis of international climate politics.
Participation and engagement in relevant networks, alliances, and with DCA partners.
Contact and dialogue with duty bearers and other relevant stakeholders.
In cooperation with the DCA climate team, planning and implementation of advocacy activities and events.
Practical and logistical tasks in relation to advocacy activities.
Contribution to project related tasks, including budget and project management, monitoring and reporting.
Required Education and Experience
Education:
The ideal candidate should be a holder of a university degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Social Studies, Geography, Natural Resource Management, Communication, Project Management, or another relevant field required.
Experience:
The ideal candidate should:
Have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in climate change related advocacy.
Have experience of international collaboration or networks.
Have strong skills in communication.
Have practical and demonstrable experience in planning and implementation of advocacy related activities and events.
Other Competencies
The candidate should also have:
The ability to work independently, and to collaborate in teams.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Self-motivation, creativity, and the ability to perform without close supervision.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Experience in project management.
The right to work in Kenya. The position is for a Kenyan national, based in Kenya.
