COOPI Cooperazione Internazionale is an Italian secular and independent humanitarian organization that fights against all forms of poverty to improve the world. It was founded in 1965 by Father Vincenzo Barbieri. Today, COOPI is present in 33 countries across Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, with both emergency and development projects carried out by expatriate staff (an average of 150 people per year) and national staff. The main institutional funders are the European Union, UN agencies, the Italian government, local authorities and other European governments.
COOPI in the Country
COOPI has been registered in Jordan since 2017, implementing projects in protection, education and livelihood. COOPI assists both the Syrian population and host community in responding to the effects of the Syrian crisis. COOPI is currently implementing child protection and livelihood projects funded by EU and AICS through which the Psychologist will be assigned.
Role
Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Clinical Psychologist will conduct mental health and psychosocial health services (MHPSS) including but not limited to cognitive behavioral therapy, play-therapy, child-interaction therapy, and other evidence-based approaches for children and adolescents and their caregivers (based on individual assessment) and will ensure a non-discriminatory approach, act according to the best interests of the child, ensure accountability, respect professional boundaries, and avoid conflicts of interest. The Psychologist will be providing MHPSS services through different community-based associations and in hard to reach areas assigned to the project in Amman, Irbid, and Mafraq and Madaba according to identified cases with psychological needs and referred by case managers.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of Project Manager, the Clinical Psychologist will be responsible of the following:
Conduct individual structured PSS sessions targeting at-risk children, children with disabilities, children with special educational needs, and caregivers (based on individual assessments) and develop concrete treatment plans.
Follow up on psychological progress of beneficiaries and implement treatment plans in collaboration with children/adolescents and their caregivers.
Regularly follow up with rights holders to ensure all services and action points listed in the treatment plans are carried out within agreed/expected time frames.
Coordinate with the case management team, to provide holistic and multidisciplinary care.
Ensure conducting follow-ups with service providers in case of conducting external referrals.
Keep record of PSS session through various forms in accordance with COOPI procedure and tools to ensure proper documentation.
Update PSS databases on a monthly basis.
Conduct monthly reports on cases who received MHPSS.
Attend meetings with team members to discuss treatment plan and progress of therapy.
Update the case management team about the progress of treatment plans for cases referred by case managers.
Ensure that data collection and storage respect data protection protocols and confidentiality principles.
Advocate with different institutions and services providers to help the rights holders to access needed resources and services, and ensure good coordination with relevant service providers.
Be available to participate in meetings and training workshops in and outside the centers or any other meetings when required by Project Manager or Head of Mission.
Report trainings, workshops, and meetings attended and update Project Manager regularly.
Prepare data for PSS to be used in the final assessments/satisfaction surveys processes.
Accomplish any other assignments given by supervisors or Project Manager or Head of Mission.
Accountability:
Ensure maintaining high confidentiality of information, up to date documents, including processes and verification.
Representation:
Represent COOPI in a positive and professional manner to contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of COOPI mandate, ethics, values and stand-point with regard to other actors. The Psychologist work in Amman, Irbid and Mafraq.
Candidate’s profile
ESSENTIAL
Master’s degree of Clinical Psychology with proven practical field experience, preferably with a humanitarian organization.
Professional and personal requirements
At least 3 years of experience in protection-related sectors, including at least 1 year of experience in emergency contexts.
Strong understanding of the humanitarian emergency operating context, the humanitarian system and its flexibility.
Strong communication and reporting skills.
Ability to work under high pressure.
Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness with attention to details.
Computer (Microsoft office) and other data collection tools such as Kobo, data collection tools
Able to work independently.
Readiness to commit and adhere to the values, mission, and vision of COOPI.
Strong team spirit, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment.
Ability to work and adapt in different environments.
** Licence in psychological clinic is an asset.
** Proven record in working with children with disabilities and children with special educational needs is an asset.
