Description
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is one of the world's leading humanitarian NGOs, working in more than 40 countries to provide appropriate, rights-based assistance to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, and migrants. DRC has been present in Colombia since 2011, but in 2018 it expanded its operations in response to the Venezuelan crisis. Currently, DRC Colombia is implementing a protection-focused humanitarian response for Venezuelan refugees and migrants, as well as returning Colombians, in Colombian cities such as Riohacha, Barranquilla, and Bogotá. It is also currently expanding its activities to Nariño and Norte de Santander.
Job Overview: Perform the tasks of transporting passengers, equipment, or authorized items in a DRC vehicle, ensuring that it is in good technical and safety condition, respecting the country's traffic regulations and DRC's safety regulations, to provide a safe, efficient, and trouble-free service wherever required according to the needs of the job.
Responsibilities:
Driving Functions:
Develop the transport and transfer activities, both of DRC staff and of the organization's materials, to the different municipalities of intervention and/or areas designated by the organization.
To ensure the safety of vehicle passengers through prudent driving, respect for speed limits and traffic regulations of the country, as well as DRC safety regulations, in order to avoid traffic accidents.
Check the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle daily (condition of tires, oil, fuel, brakes, communication equipment, spare parts, etc.), keeping it clean to ensure driving in perfect conditions.
Monitor vehicle maintenance requirements and report, according to the established schedule, the follow-up dates for technical and mechanical inspections and traffic regulations.
Comply with the driving rules of the National Traffic Code and those established by the DRC safety area.
Report any type of damage or malfunction to the vehicle.
Collect and/or deliver merchandise.
Implement duties in accordance with the DRC Code of Conduct and represent the DRC in an appropriate manner.
Plan the assigned journeys before each trip, taking into account the particularities of the route and destination, the security situation and/or weather conditions that affect the journey.
Complete the vehicle usage reports according to the standards established by DRC.
Assist passengers in loading and unloading activity items, personal belongings, or official items when necessary for the operation.
Complete the Logbook daily in accordance with the guidelines established by the National Office
Make sure the vehicle is always at least half a tank of fuel and refuel when necessary.
Provide support with what is required regarding minor repairs that the vehicle requires, and manage the necessary supplies.
Perform tire changes, punctures or tire damage on the ground, ensuring the correct mounting of spare tires, as well as their repair and/or replacement.
Organize and clean the tools, road equipment, spare parts, supplies and materials intended for the care of the fleet in the warehouse and inside the vehicle.
To accompany and facilitate the control, monitoring and auditing processes of the vehicle-related indicators.
Any other requirement of the same driving nature.
Logistics:
Support the purchasing process and transfer to the locations required by DRC.
Provide assistance in all requests for the acquisition and supply of office and project equipment, supplies, materials, and furniture, as instructed by the Supervisor.
To serve as logistical support for the various tasks of the support area and especially the Supply Chain sub-area.
Support compliance with the purchasing processes required for the proper functioning of DRC operations in the office.
Experience and technical skills:
Minimum experience of two (2) in passenger transport.
Valid license in category C1 or C2
Experience driving 4x4 vehicles.
Ability to use computers and media.
Knowledge of traffic code, basic mechanics, customer service attitude with passengers and staff.
Ability to concentrate and work in a team.
Knowledge of the project implementation areas ( all of Norte de Santander ).
Punctuality and respect for DRC rules and procedures.
You must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding work-related information and data.
Calm and diplomatic character.
Ability to create a good team environment.
Good communication skills with communities and individuals and ability to create a safe and trusting environment.
Desirable
Experience working with NGOs
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Experience in intervention in communities/areas with difficult access and/or in contexts of armed conflict.
Basic first aid certificate.
Education:
High School Diploma
Defensive Driving Certificate.
Languages:
Spanish - Required
