Description
For this position, personnel will be hired and located in both Guatemala City and the Department of Zacapa. The definition of the duty station (work location) is at the discretion of the hiring party, taking into account the professional profile and the needs of the project.

The Construction Engineering Technician – Analyst (BIM and Schedule Management) provides technical expertise and supervisory experience in the planning, implementation, and oversight of infrastructure construction projects. The Engineer ensures that all work is executed to the required quality standards, within the defined budget, and according to the established deadlines.
The role encompasses construction supervision in the area of competence (BIM and Schedule), quality management, contract administration, and capacity building, contributing to the delivery of resilient, safe, and sustainable infrastructure aligned with UNOPS and donor/partner standards.
Functions:
1. Construction Management
Supervise and manage daily supervision and construction activities within your area of responsibility, to ensure compliance with project specifications, approved plans, and contractual obligations.
Monitor the progress of BIM scopes and the schedule of supervision and construction contracts, and the performance of contractors to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality delivery of products.
Identify and report potential delays, risks, and cost overruns. Recommend and implement approved corrective actions.
Support the supervision of construction works using the BIM methodology, in accordance with contractual provisions, verifying consistency with the approved Bills of Quantity (BoQs) and schedules.
Review and evaluate contractor progress payment claims, variation orders, and extension requests for accuracy and compliance.
Maintain adequate documentation of project activities, including progress reports, work records, and meeting minutes.
Represent UNOPS, as delegated by the supervisor, at site meetings, coordination forums and consultations with stakeholders.
Ensure effective communication and coordination with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to address technical and operational issues in a timely manner.
2. Quality Management
Enforce UNOPS quality standards in your area of expertise and project-specific quality assurance plans.
Prepare and track quality control documentation in your area of expertise, including inspection checklists, test records, and non-conformity reports.
Provide technical guidance to contractors and field personnel to ensure continuous improvement in construction quality and compliance with specifications.
3. Health, Safety, Social and Environmental (HSSE) Management
Support the implementation of UNOPS HSSE management systems at the project site, ensuring compliance with organizational and local regulations.
To support, through the BIM methodology, periodic safety inspections, safety talks and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
Promote environmental sustainability and integrate "green building" practices into all project activities.
Monitor and report incidents, near misses and corrective actions, maintaining a culture of responsibility and prevention.
4. Monitoring, Reporting and Progress Control
Monitor project progress against work plans, milestones, and performance goals, providing accurate updates to stakeholders.
Prepare detailed weekly and monthly reports covering aspects of progress, quality, health and safety, environment and finance.
Support the preparation of Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs), contract closure documentation, and project completion reports.
Maintain complete work records, including field diaries, inspection reports, correspondence, and photographic evidence.
Participate in project review meetings, ensuring timely follow-up of actions and decisions.
5. Knowledge Building and Management
Support the organization, facilitation and delivery of training and learning sessions in BIM management and schedule management.
Participate in knowledge sharing initiatives and Communities of Practice (CoPs), contributing ideas and lessons learned.
Conduct research on topics related to infrastructure and project management, and contribute to the preparation of reports, summaries, and briefing notes.
Requirements:
A. Education
Requested
Completed studies at the Bachelor's degree level in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related fields, in combination with 2 years of relevant experience,
A Master's degree in the aforementioned areas will be valued.
A nationally or internationally recognized professional certification in BIM Management will be valued.
Desired
Experience in project management using BIM 4D and 5D tools.
B. Experience
Requested
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in implementing BIM methodology and managing schedules in building construction, supervising vertical infrastructure works or managing infrastructure projects.
Experience in quality control, monitoring and report preparation within construction projects.
Use of collaboration and productivity tools such as Revit, BIM, MS Office, G-Suite, AutoCAD, as well as web-based management systems.
Desired
Experience working in multicultural environments or UN system organizations in developing countries.
Experience in development or humanitarian contexts is desirable.
Experience in project documentation, report writing, and technical communication.
C. Languages
Fluency in Spanish is required.
A basic level of English is required.
