Join MSF OCG as an IT Field Operations Intern!

This internship is part of an academic training program, a professional training program, or a socio-professional integration program, and must comply with the conditions set by the Employment Market Supervisory Council (CSME). The duration of the internship, as defined by the tripartite agreement, is 6 to 12 months at 100%

Médecins Sans Frontières is an international, independent medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to populations in need, to people affected by natural or man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and regardless of their race, religion, belief or political affiliation (MSF Charter).
The MSF movement is built around 5 operational centers supported by 23 sections and offices worldwide. MSF Operational Centre Geneva (MSF OCG) is one of these centers.
The operations are implemented by around 40 field teams, 20 mission coordination teams and organizational units based in Africa, Middle East, Asia and Central America.
The field operations are guided and supported by 4 Operational Desks, the Emergency Desk and other departments supporting operations, including the Medical Department and Information Systems.
The Information Systems Department includes in the IT Operation services a dedicated team who support our IS officers in our mission all over the world (mainly in Africa). This team is composed of 5 people under the coordinator management, and they work closely with the architecture and infrastructure team.
As an IT Field Operations Intern, you'll collaborate with Field IT Referents and IS Officers to enhance the monitoring, documentation, and remote management of vital infrastructure in MSF missions. This role provides immersive, hands-on experience tackling real-world IT challenges in a humanitarian setting.
Infrastructure Monitoring
Deploy and configure Zabbix in our field environments
Develop and customize Zabbix templates to monitor servers, network devices, and services
Assist in rolling out the monitoring solution into production
Technical Documentation
Review and update existing field-mission documentation
Apply new document templates for standard operating procedures
Publish and maintain up-to-date guides on SharePoint for IS Officers
Centralized Server Management
Implement centralized IPMI (Lenovo) firmware update procedures
Develop automation scripts or workflows for bulk firmware updates
Test and validate remote management operations before fielddeployment
Technical Support
Provide 2nd-line support to IS Officers in our field missions
Troubleshoot connectivity, hardware, and software issues remotely
Coordinate with the IT Field Referents team to escalate and resolve critical incidents
By the end of your internship, you will have:
Gained practical experience with enterprise monitoring tools (Zabbix)
Enhanced your documentation and knowledge-management skills in a global SharePoint environment
Understood best practices in remote server management using IPMI interfaces
Developed strong problem-solving and communication skills in a fast-paced humanitarian context
Have a tripartite internship agreement
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
Basic knowledge of server administration
Familiarity with monitoring frameworks (ideally Zabbix) or willingness to learn
Understanding of IPMI or similar out-of-band management technologies
Strong written French and English skills
Good interpersonal and teamwork abilities, especially in multicultural settings
A tripartite internship agreement is mandatory
4 to 6 months, according to internship agreement
Full time (40h/week)
Based in Geneva, Switzerland
Start date : As Soon As Possible, ideally between July and September 2025
Gross monthly remuneration 2'000.- CHF
