Description
London UK
£45,728 to £61,034 per annum pro rata inclusive
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
The UK-Public Health Rapid Support Team (UK-PHRST) has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Research Fellow or Assistant Professor in Epidemiology.
UK-PHRST is a partnership between the UK Health Security Agency, and international research partners, led by LSHTM. UK-PHRST supports partners in LMICs to prepare for, prevent, detect and respond rapidly to disease outbreaks.
Based in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Dynamics, the post-holder’s responsibilities will range from providing direct operational support to outbreak response, to co-identification, development and implementation of substantial research and capacity strengthening projects. As a member of the UK-PHRST deployable team, the post-holder must be prepared to travel overseas at short notice for periods of typically 6-8 weeks, most frequently to ODA-eligible countries.
The post-holder must have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree (for Research Fellow) or a doctoral degree (for Assistant Professor) in epidemiology, and expertise in the control of infectious disease, including outbreak investigation and response.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 31 March 2029 with the possibility of a two-year extension, subject to funding. The post is funded by the NIHR and is available from 01 October 2026.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, for Research Fellow Grade 6 in the range £45,728 -£51,872 or for Assistant Professor Grade 7 in the range £53,317 - £61,034 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
