Context :
The ongoing hostilities in the Gaza Strip has severely restricted access for humanitarian personnel and the delivery of essential goods, resulting in a severe and worsening humanitarian crisis . Vast numbers are displaced and lack access to basic necessities such as food, water, and medical care. Homes, schools, hospitals, and essential services have been destroyed, severely disrupting daily life and access to critical services.
Children are particularly vulnerable, facing physical harm and severe psychological trauma, with many having lost family members including one or both parents. The collapse of the education system and destruction of schools have disrupted their education, jeopardizing their future and exposing them to additional risk of (worst forms of) child labour.
Responsibilities :
Under the line management of the Emergency Field Coordinator in Gaza and technical coordination with the CP/MHPSS Specialist in Jerusalem, the Emergency Child Protection Specialist will be responsible for providing on-the-ground technical support and capacity building to Tdh implementing teams of child protection and PSS activities (Case Managers, Lay Counsellors and Facilitators), and other Tdh programme and support staff. The Specialist supports in quality management and capacity building of implementing partners working on CP, PSS, and education, collaboratively with the CP/MHPSS Officer.
He/She will ensure that the emergency response is aligned with and promotes Tdh’s child protection principles, the Child protection Mininum Standards in Humanitarian Action (CPMS) and Tdh’s child protection in humanitarian crises policy, as well as relevant national and global refugee protection principles.
Provide technical leadership in Child Protection and Education, aligned with Tdh policies, global standards and best practices, and local guidelines and practices.
Maintain effective communication with program teams and key stakeholders to regularly report trends, gaps, opportunities, and advocate for children’s best interests, quality programming, and staff wellbeing.
Maintain proactive working relationships with implementing partners and staff to work towards enhancing quality of activities through provision of feedback in structured sessions, initiating training, and as required adapting curricula and implementation tools.
Support program teams in identifying needs and gaps in programming, proactively recommending activities to strengthen the response.
Support the Gaza CP Officer and partner case supervisors in case management supervision, including attendance of case conferences for complex and high-risk CP cases.
Contribute to the development of project concept notes, proposals, and budgets.
Proactively champion and explore opportunities to integrate Child Protection with other sectors, such as Health, WASH, and Education, to provide a more holistic response.
Support mainstreaming of safeguarding processes and considerations in line with Tdh Safeguarding Policy and global standards, including PSEAH.
Profile :
Tdh is looking for an Emergency Child Protection Specialist to lead high-quality program design, planning, and implementation in Gaza, Palestine The role will focus on technical leadership, capacity building, case management support, and promoting safeguarding and child rights across all activities.
Education : Post graduate degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, International Development
Experience & Competencies :
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Child Protection project management with technical responsibilities.
Previous experiences in the Middle East region/Palestine working on Child Protection.
Experience in MHPSS, education, and/or SGBV would be a distinct advantage.
Significant experience of working in emergencies and conflict zones in INGOs.
Languages :
Excellent oral and writing skills in English.
Strong oral skills in Arabic are required, and writing skills would be a distinct advantage.
IT :
High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Conditions:
Swiss Labour law contract
Gross monthly salary between 4000 CHF and 4800 CHF depending on experience - x13,36 months
