Description

Job Summary

Desired start date: 1st September 2025
Duration of the mission: 3 months
Location: Kabul

SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, since more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their basic needs for food, water and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI's interventions provide expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, but also in the essential area of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, the SI teams – 3200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at HQ, and a few volunteers - intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultural norms.

About the mission

SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL has resumed its programs in Afghanistan in December 2021 and has initially established a presence in Bamyan, Kapisa, Wardak and Kabul provinces. As of today, activities are implemented in Bamyan, Nimroz, and Farah provinces. With an annual budget of around 4 M EUR. SI currently implements integrated WASH and FSL programs and aims at scaling them up in 2025 and 2026. There are currently 5 grants under implementation (1 CDCS, 2 ECHO, 2 AHF).

SI is exploring several new programmatic areas, requiring thorough needs assessment to better understand the existing needs and gaps, in order to support SI positioning for 2025/2026.

SECURITY CONSTRAINTS

The security situation in Afghanistan remains unstable and unpredictable. Although the Taliban took control in 2021, ending the previous conflict, groups like the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) still pose significant threats, especially in cities like Kabul. The Taliban’s policies, including restrictions on women, have drawn international criticism. Foreign organizations face increasing administrative barriers, and there has been few raids on compounds in recent months.
