General Background
GRC is an international law foundation established in 2013, dedicated to promoting accountability and strengthening justice systems through the application of international law. With ongoing operations in some of the world’s most complex legal and security environments, Global Rights Compliance continues to provide specialized legal expertise, policy solutions, and strategic advisory services to uphold justice and strengthen the rule of law globally.
About the Team
In Pakistan, GRC works with local and international partners to strengthen labour rights accountability in the garment sector by empowering workers through awareness-raising sessions, community building, and tailored legal aid. Over the past two years, legal aid centers and women workers’ cafes have become key venues for capacity building and support, fostering a “virtuous circle” of empowerment and legal recourse. As a result of the project, workers report feeling safer in voicing concerns and seeking assistance. This shift in worker confidence marks a significant step toward ensuring justice in high-risk areas by building community trust and resilience against rights abuses.
Duty Station: Pakistan - Karachi or Islamabad
Contract Duration: Initially 6 months with an intention to extend.
The Role
We are seeking a Pakistan Country Director to lead the project through providing technical capacity building, legal assistance and advocacy for CSOs, workers, and organisations seeking accountability for labour rights violations in the garment and textile sector in the country. Key responsibilities will include:
Cross-cutting work on responsible sourcing and labour rights violations.
Ensure a robust understanding of workers’ and workers organisations’ training needs regarding labour rights and their strategic plan and priorities.
Develop and facilitate workshops, multi-stakeholder events and training courses.
Provide leadership and support for the establishment of legal aid clinics and mentoring for CSOs and workers organisations.
Support in the creation and dissemination of a bilingual investigative documentation and monitoring tool to support paralegals and CSOs when documenting workers rights violations.
Provide training and management for a team of one (1) coordinator and eight (8) paralegals.
Identify emerging talent and work with them to reach their full potential, ensuring they are developed and given new areas of responsibility.
Act as a mentor for consulting team members, offering guidance and support to enable them to perform to their full potential.
Work within the BHR team to develop new areas of work and identify potential clients.
Your Background
8+ years of relevant legal and/or business and human rights experience
Pakistan nationality (including dual citizenship).
Practical experience working in Pakistan.
Proven experience working on labour rights abuses (in a practical application, not just academic study/work).
Demonstrable experience leading and managing a team.
Flexible, versatile and creative; able to work in an changeable & fast-moving environment, being proactive, anticipating problems, suggesting solutions etc.
Self starter; can be given a ‘desired outcome’ and figure out the action areas required to reach it.
Practical thinker, able to break down and pursue the elements required to operationalise a strategy.
Administratively competent; able to manage competing urgent demands.
Fluent in Urdu and English, verbal & written skills.
Full driving license.
