Description

Job Summary

Who are we?

The Danish Refugee Council assists refugees and internally displaced persons across the globe: we provide emergency aid, fight for their rights, and strengthen their opportunity for a brighter future. We work in conflict-affected areas, along the displacement routes, and in the countries where refugees settle. In cooperation with local communities, we strive for responsible and sustainable solutions. We work toward successful integration and – whenever possible – for the fulfillment of the wish to return home.

The Danish Refugee Council was founded in Denmark in 1956, and has since grown to become an international humanitarian organization with more than 7,000 staff and 8,000 volunteers. Our vision is a dignified life for all displaced.

All of our efforts are based on our value compass: humanity, respect, independence and neutrality, participation, and honesty and transparency.

Overall purpose of the role

Under the management of the MMC Project Specialist for the Middle East, the Data and Research Project Officer supports MMC-led 4Mi research on Syrian returnees by coordinating and overseeing data collection carried out by contracted consultancy partners. The Officer ensures smooth implementation of field activities, maintains regular communication and technical support to partner teams, delivers training to field teams, and manages all related administrative, logistical and procurement procedures. As required, the Officer also contributes to secondary data review, context analysis and initial data cleaning.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular communication with partner focal points, providing technical guidance, troubleshooting, and continuous support.

  • Organize and deliver training sessions for enumerators and supervisors on research tools, ethics, and data-quality standards.

  • Support identification, vetting, and contracting of data-collection partners—from drafting scopes of work to finalizing service agreements.

  • Lead logistical arrangements and procurement of supplies/services in line with donor and MMC procedures.

  • Monitor data-collection progress, conduct quality checks, and escalate issues to the Mixed Migration Project Specialist as needed.

  • Support secondary data review, context monitoring, and analysis to inform project reporting.

  • Monitor mixed-migration developments in Syria and neighboring contexts, flagging emerging evidence gaps and potential new research questions for MMC in the region.

  • Process, validate, and analyze large volumes of incoming datasets in collaboration with the Project Specialist, ensuring consistency and reliability before hand-off.

  • Maintain accurate project records, including contracts, payment schedules, and asset registers.

  • Contribute to donor reports, meeting minutes, and internal updates.

  • Ensure compliance with risk-management, safeguarding, and security procedures during field activities.

  • Undertake any other duties as required to support the MMC Project Specialist.

Experience and technical competencies:

  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in MEAL, IM, research, and/or project management/coordination in humanitarian or development contexts, including direct involvement in Syria and/or the wider regional response.

  • Proven track record coordinating field data collection in Syria and/or regional response, preferably with partners and/or consultants.

  • Strong understanding of mixed migration and/or internal displacement patterns in the region; prior work on displacement/migration issues will be viewed favorably.

  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and tools (e.g., Kobo/ODK).

  • Understanding of supply-chain and procurement processes in INGOs or UN settings.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines and in complex environments.

Languages

  • Arabic - Fluent

  • English - Advanced

In this position, you are expected to demonstrate DRC’s five core competencies:

  • Striving for excellence: You focus on reaching results while ensuring an efficient process.

  • Collaborating: You involve relevant parties and encourage feedback.

  • Taking the lead: You take ownership and initiative while aiming for innovation.

  • Communicating: You listen and speak effectively and honestly.

  • Demonstrating integrity: Upholding and promoting the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct in relation to DRC’s values and Code of Conduct, including safeguarding against sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, international development, or a related field.

  • Training in research methods, data analysis, or project management is an asset.
