Position: Senior Manager, Agriculture

Job Location: Dhaka / Nairobi

About the Role:

Assist the Country Teams to design, plan, and to implement all aspects of agriculture marketing encompassing all aspects of market structure or system for AFS and other BRAC Livelihoods programmes and provide marketing technical and economic considerations for better impact for agriculture sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support, coordinate and mainstream all agricultural marketing processes for implementation of BRAC programmes in different BI operating countries.

  • Support country office (CO) teams to adopt and spread new technologies, including the provision of farm inputs to farmers and in the transfer of agricultural products from farms to consumers.

  • Provide support to Country Office Teams to help producers on pre- and post-harvest operations, integration, planning, storage, transportation and distribution.

  • Support the CO teams to organize small-scale farmers into producer groups for collective action and assist farmers to make decision to produce on the farm tangible products for targeted market.

  • Provide support through training and coaching of the CO teams on how to build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including small-scale farmers, distributors, processors and retailers.

  • Support the CO Teams to perform market research to identify challenges, opportunities, trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape; campaign planning across various channels (digital, print, trade shows), relationship management with buyers, processors and distributors.

  • Support country team to review agriculture marketing training modules/manuals, help in preparing promotional/communication material development for the respective project/programme.

  • Assist the country team in preparing the project proposals and concept notes for fund-raising and routinely review donor information for the agriculture sector.

  • Review and analyse the project documents and preparation of operational guidelines and support Project/Programme quality and progress monitoring.

  • Review and analyse jointly with others the monthly qualitative and quantitative reports, quarterly narrative report, donor report, case studies and different learning issues documentation related agriculture.

  • Establish appropriate information sharing relationship with other BI colleagues in other sectors.

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of the safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Agricultural Science, Agribusiness, Marketing, Agricultural Communications.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge: Adequate knowledge on Agriculture crop production practice and management, Knowledge on MS Word, Excel, Power Point, application of common software, email & Internet.

  • Technical skills: All technical support related to agriculture, livelihoods, and Training Needs Assessment (TNA). Facilitate and coordinate different training, prepare training & extension materials (e.g. ToT module for staff development, farmers friendly simple techno-guide, technical booklet, leaflet, contents & layout design of poster)

  • Proposal and Report writing Skill: Concept note & proposal writing**,** monthly/quarterly reports both quantitative and qualitative, financial progress report, variance report, annual report, donor report, and other project related documents and case studies.

  • Program design & implementation: Capable of planning, designing, monitoring and implementing of various crops& Food Security and Nutrition and Livelihoods programme.

  • Financial Management: Budget preparation and analysis, budget burned rate, Profit and loss accounts**.**

Required Competencies:

  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, to enable collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product development, sales, and supply chain management.

  • Ability to foster relationships with stakeholders—ranging from farmers and distributors to retailers and consumers

  • Ability to work in a group as well as individually and relationship building capability.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making ability.

  • Influencing and continual improvement tendency

  • Creative and innovative, determinant and sincere to work.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of related experience in Market Development and Value chain Development related experiences in agricultural subsectors and a track record in working with farmers by providing knowledge transfer and extension services within sector development programmes.
